Departure requirements and the operating airline’s onboard policy can be different. This record only applies to the scope shown above.

Do new, unopened power banks count towards the two?

Yes. The limit includes power banks in retail packaging, including ones bought at airport shops.

Can I carry two under 100 Wh and two between 100 and 160 Wh?

No. The limit is two power banks per person in total, whatever their Wh rating. Power banks over 100 Wh up to 160 Wh also need your airline's approval; over 160 Wh are not allowed.

Can I put the extra power banks in my checked bag?

No. Power banks are not permitted in checked baggage.

Is a phone battery case a power bank?

Yes. A removable case with a battery for charging a phone counts as a power bank. A phone with reverse charging does not, and a laptop is not a power bank.

Can I put my power bank in the overhead bin?

CAAS leaves storage conditions to the airline. Singapore Airlines says power banks should not be stored in overhead compartments. Check your operating airline’s exact instructions.

How do I protect it against short circuits?

Keep each one in its original retail packaging, tape over exposed terminals, or put each in its own plastic bag or pouch.
